Modern day vehicles are covered in hundreds of sensors constantly monitoring and reporting back the vehicles ECU(s) (Electronic Control unit). The ECU(s) act like the brain of a car. In the event a sensor is not reading correctly or within the set parameters, this usually brings on a warning light. Sometimes the vehicle will put itself into a Restricted Performance Mode or Limp Home Mode, which it does to protect itself against damage but allows you to drive to safety.
